This was an awesome and much needed talk with Ben Simmons. It is nice to have him able to speak his side of the story, clear up some total bs that got mixed in with whatever else happened. He seems like such a refreshing nice person. Someone who deserves a fresh start. That said, I think he will be great on the Nets, it is the best team he could have landed on. I'm really looking forward to seeing their games!

    • Sachin Kumar
Sachin Kumar Před 2 měsíci +8

You mean he has the potential to be a generational talent. He has to prove himself if he wants to be in that conversation. What's with everybody getting roses even if they haven't done anything. All he established in this interview that he had no fault in all this.

    • Korean Mamba
Korean Mamba Před 2 měsíci +1

He has potential. I wouldn't say generational talent because that would mean he would be at LeBron, KD, Steph, Giannis level. But dude is ruining his potential by being a brat. Dude says he has mental issues then right after gets caught making out with his girlfriend at the US Open and just partying all summer long and not training one bit. This dude didn't practice or pick up a basketball the entire summer last year and then he goes on saying he has mental issues when he sits out games for Philly and gets criticized? THAT'S our issue. And don't get me started with the "jersey in the pocket"... If you actually believe that, then you're just dumb... He has massive POTENTIAL to be an all-time great, but he's just throwing it out the window.

One of my favorite interviews ever, and I've been watching the NBA since 1991. I'm surprised by how wrong I was about Ben as a person.
Really glad he did this with JJ, and it's kind of nice to know I can still be wrong about people every now and then. And it also serves as a reminder to not always believe what you're seeing on TV.
I've been in similar positions as Ben has in the past, so it's great to hear that he's doing better. Seems like a good young man. Sorry for pegging you wrong, and good luck during your rookie season.

This appearance from Ben was great, all we get as fans is the filtered crap from the mainstream media agendas and the on court moments. To get a genuine, real look at who these NBA players really are is awesome! Changed some opinions of mine about Ben!

    • E Penthien
      E Penthien Před měsícem

This just shows how gullible you are. 1. The line of questioning was soft - as is to be expected as Ben is JJ's boy. 2. Ben is not gonna' make himself look silly and jeopardize his reputation. This is pure PR for him and for JJ it's being first with the scoop. However, as I've pointed out, JJ needs to tow a very fine line in order to not damage the reputation of his podcast in NBA circles and keep guests coming on.

This interview is so good and I totally understand what Ben Simmons have been through. A lot of us experienced this kind of path but I can't imagine the difficulty to find the peace you need when it is public. No blame to Shaq and others who criticized him, like he said this is just ignorance and also a lack of empathy. But you have to know what it is personally to understand the difficulty and the complexity of that. I can't not wait to see one of my favorite player on the floor again and so happy to hear the wiseness he bring to the table here.

@Brodie Stephens OK 1 year off then, the one in Brooklyn doesn't count, BUT in Philadelphia he didn't play not because of injury, because he just acted primadonna and decided not to play anymore, he quit on his team and he quit on the game of basketball. That's why I mention Wiggins, because he really love playing the game (he even took the vaccine he was against off), because he put his team first, he put the love of the game first, and he put playing elite defense first, just like he showed in the playoffs and finals, by defending the best player of the other team.

@calo2006 I don't know how many spinal surgeries you've had, but I've had four. It's not possible to resume working immediately following spinal surgery. Like Simmons, I've had to learn to walk again on more than one occasion. Simmons didn't "take two years off".
He literally broke his foot the first time he was unable to play. The second time, he had spinal surgery. I'd love to see how good you are at basketball immediately after having spinal surgery. Did you actually listen to anything Ben and JJ said???

I think it’s great we finally hear some of what Ben was going through and his thoughts. He’s a great player and we want him to do well. However also, I think JJ and the podcast coddled him a bit through the interview and there was a lack of real accountability. BOTH sides Philly org and Ben were wrong in some ways. Still seems that Ben is deflecting the real issues instead of saying “look I did x y z this was wrong , I can do this better by etc” I didn’t really get that. You can tell he’s still thin skinned. This is in no way discounting mental health issues because that’s real!
