Instead of drilling a bunch of large holes in the tube and cranking the knob, maybe see what fewer, smaller holes does when directed toward the center and top of the chimney, while slowly increasing the o2 feed.

Me: Ahem, the FASTEST method to start charcoal is LIQUID OXYGEN

@Robert Lockard The point is to have a fire that isn't trying to poison you though... Even using ozone as an oxidizer isn't prone to doing that.

    • Robert Lockard
      Robert Lockard Před 13 dny

@TheAttacker732 Try Flourine...... (#9 on the periodic table), it's an even more aggressive oxidizer than liquid oxygen

    • TheAttacker732
      TheAttacker732 Před 14 dny

Liquid ozone would probably beat that. Although there's a chance that it'll just explode horribly on contact.

@the king of random.. Next time use a heat gun for removing paint.. Its mutch easier and safer because you direct the heat. I would say 5 to 10 min for a large bbq

Put the charcoal in a bag. Pipe in oxygen and just hold it a minute. Then pour into grill and light. It will absorb the gas and burn like a flare.

Heads up, you put too much charcoal into that chimney. They also work better with lump and not briquettes.
My personal favorite is the heat gun most home owners have in their garage. Stack the lump charcoal like you would for lighter fluid, set the heat gun near the bottom and let it rip. It usually only takes a few minutes to get the charcoal started and you can move the thing around. I'm usually ready to cook in 10 minutes. Looking to upgrade a chimney to use the heat gun to maximize efficiency and make it great for smoking.
