A combination of loose surfaces, rocks, roots, and trail features can make it easy to loose control when you're first starting out; and can even catch out a more experienced rider! Neil and Blake show you some common mistakes and how you can avoid them.

@Vnox Or just buy a new decent hardtail, if that is out your budget don't even think about getting into this addiction, a second hand fs will come with lots of trouble for the same price excluding all the things you need to fix and upgrade cause it's an old 26" enduro/dh bike.
Stop talking about something you don't know anything about dude.

I found another way to get going again on a steep incline, if your in a good high gear and try and pull off you get wheel spin but if you hold on that back brake until your on the bike /sat with your wight on the seat and just drag the back brake until you start moving it helps you get going again 👍

I have big issues with uphill switchbacks.... The front just becomes so light there is no feel and no traction that I just don't get around without coming off. I ride Grav. Enduro for the most part. The rear shock is soft to be fair as its a basic Rockshox , but I run good sags. I have changed to a fox factory 34 Fork so Geometry has slightly changed due to longer travel fork but I would not believe this to be the cause for my issue. I genuinely believe it to be rider skill, or lack off..!

Great tips, especially for novices. The guy who went on and on about losing contact with the pedals made no mention about what any serious mtn. biker wears, clipless pedals that have an adjustable binding which connects to a cleat attached to the sole of the shoe. They're wearing North Wave bike shoes that accept those cleats. Some DH riders use a shoe and pedal combo like the 2 video hosts do because they don't wanna be too attached to the pedals if they need to bail. But this video is a typical cross country trail and clipless is the best way to go. The other thing I noticed is they talked about bloody knees, totally preventable if you wear knee/shin protectors.

ohh no idea about this feet bouncing off pedals, we went from road racing & TT to mountain biking back in the day, and did first few months on toe clip pedals, and then every ride and every race after that on shimano spuds, worked fine for 1 dozen races and hundreds of sunday rides. ahh the old days riding those races with no suspension, lol

My biggest beginner mistake: keeping a pedal down and another one up while not pedaling (downhill). Lower foot/pedal hits the uneven ground and you crash.
So when you re not pedaling keep both pedals at an even level.

Good evening. This may be off topic but..
I used a left hand hollowtech 2 cup and forced it into the right side bottom bracket shell. I removed it because I made a mistake.
Howevere I grabbed the proper right side cup and it screwed into the right shell fairly easily without difficult.
So my question is. Should I be worried about the threads inside my bottom bracket shell (frame)?
I'm not too worried about the cup. More than the frame.
Thanks! Let me know. Anyone here in chat can chime in too! Would be greatly appreciated. Also I like turtles.

I've been riding and racing since 1992 and STILL stiffen up on surprises. Worse yet, I grit my teeth, which you DO NOT want to do in a crash or mashing your face with the handlebars. I have chipped my teeth simply on hard landings because they're already under stress.

I would say the biggest thing to learn is to stay loose over the bike. Move the weight not only front and back but also side to side.
Having the weight the right place is so important. Not only for braking but also but also for climbing and turning.

More discussion on front wheel washout please! Int-Adv rider here who's been working on railing high speed turns over the past year. I held my line and approached g-out through 2/3 of a turn. It felt really good before unexpectedly crashing. I usually see a crash coming but not this time. I think it was either 1) simply too much speed and lean-over for the small bank of the turn resulting in the tire breaking traction or 2) improper suspension setup (front shock too much sag?) or 3) caught the handlebar or pedal or my right knee on the ground because of too much lean or 3) I may not have seen a bump in the turn that caused the front wheel to break traction. I could feel the front wheel slipping a bit earlier in the turn and shifted my weight front right to regain traction which it did but then the bike slid out from under me. Thinking something caught up on my right side. Maybe my right knee wasn't tucked enough and caught the ground, not sure, please help me deconstruct what went wrong, I want to go fast and not taste the dirt like that again.
