I was really lucky to meet some of YOU guys the Portuguese geograpeeps in Lisbon with my mom and the experience was amazing. Portugal is relatively small but left a HUGE global mark even they probably didn't see coming. Enjoy this episode, #PORTUGAL!

We saw it coming, unfortunately, in the last few centuries, we've lost a lot of what made us in the 15th and 16th century the greatest empire in the world!

We understand spanish, it's the lack of effort on the spanish side to understand portuguese that pisses us off. So yeah, keep it to english.

The resemblance between arigatou and obrigado is just coincidental. The Japanese phrase predates the arrival of the Portuguese.

  • Spikklubba
    Spikklubba Před dnem

A common misconception in Portugal, Arigato does not stem from Portuguese Obrigado. Japanese does have portuguese loanwords due to the trade and interactions between the countries in the early modern period, but Arigato is not one of them. The Spaniards are the ones in the f'ed up timezone, btw, im not the first one to comment that but it cant be stressed enough.

I beg your pardon, it was not Portugal "who decided" to have a different time zone making sound that Spain's timezone is somehow right. Portugal and England are correct. The Timezone Spain uses was implemented according Germany's instructions for Spain to have the same timezone as Germany during the second world war, and After the war, Franco didn't restore the timezone. The Spanish timezone does not correspond to the Solar Time, as the sun reaches its peak at 13 and not 12. Ok?
    Thank you

T.E.A. Transporte de Ervas Aromáticas. It means Aromatic Herb Transportation because thats what the boxes used to say when we brought them from China.. This back in the 1500s... Also we stepped foot in Australia probably sooner than most but it was just a desert and so we just didn't bother... Great Video! Congrats, glad you enjoyed Portugal!

Portuguese hate when you confuse Portugal with Spain, but if you can't speak portuguese and if the porguese you are trying to comunicate can't speak english or other language you can talk, you can try to speak spanish that we mostly understand. But you have to try to understand portuguese then, cose we don't speak spanish

Have to say , Japanese word arigato doesnt come from portuguese word obrigado ,although they mean the same....strange coincidence you might say, but thats a myth...Japan already had that word before we came in contact. Maybe its our word obrigado that comes from japanese, who knows.
And of course, all that globe navigation was only possible because of a spoon of lemon everyday for the sailors , thats a fun fact.
