I'm super unfit and have chronic pain so I don't know if I could ever do this kind of stuff, but I love forests so much and the idea of a safe haven in the wilds. Watching this was so beautiful and so immersive. I felt like I was there in the forest. Your skills are wonderful and the shelter looks so lovely. I love the leaves on the roof :)
@Greg Tavarez In ancestral times I would be the granny in the rocking chair beside the fire. I had cataract surgery which meant I wouldn't be able to see past 10 feet. I had 2 hip replacements and a knee which means that I wouldn't have been able to walk past 30 feet. I would contribute to my family by holding and rocking the babies, cutting vegetables and things in my lap. Beyond that I'm so glad that I wasn't born 100, 500 or 1000 years ago.
I dont know if that has been asked before, but what do you do with your shelters once they are done? Do you ever go back and use them, or do you destroy them/let nature take them over. So awesome, I'm glad I found your channel.

Lying is a sin. Lying to your children has consequences. My dad never lied to me. Even about Santa. I trust him to this day, even when we disagree. My Mom lied to me. I don't trust her even when we do agree. I will never trust her ever again. It causes strain on the relationship. Still love her. But there are costs. Just a friendly warning.
I grew up in the Aussie bush where kids had no toys or gizmos to ease boredom and vast distances meant you hardly ever saw other kids to play games. So we roamed around the bush having wild adventures, some real (and dangerous eg with poisonous snakes, dingos etc), other imaginary eg looking for dinosaur eggs, footprints etc. And we challenged ourselves to survive any such encounter with such monsters. By build g these dug out shelters in the bush. Good fun. Until fathers found us and laughed at our pathetic efforts at "survivalism" and explained why our shelters were useless and how to build better ones. We learned many useful skills this way. It develops a child's ingenuity and, of course, toughens them up mentally, too. Because parents can't be around forever to protect you as their child.

@Hal Douglas if he was eating raw meat then that would be a problem, but he’s cooking the meat, even I know that that fire clean out the bacteria that could lead to food poisoning or harmful weakness basically washing it out.
Little tip, use a shovel when mining dirt, it's much faster than the pickaxe. Also if you have an iron pick you probably don't need to make your house out of dirt but that's just an aesthetic choice.

There are several people putting videos out without words. Most are digging holes in the dirt. Some build in rock crevasses. All use wood they cut to fit.
I love your channel! I've been watching for more than 9 months & I just wanted to show my appreciation. I love the way your videos are, they're not like the people who "build a mud hut with no tools" all while they have a whole camera crew, you don't talk, you get straight to the point and I love it. That little river. It looks like the river bed he's building in will get a lot more water later in year or perhaps with bad weather. Be carefull not all of it gets floodef or ripped away/dissolved
Way to low on the comments. That is not a long term shelter and choosing that location could be dangerous for anyone planning on staying in it. From the leaves that were put on there it looks like mid to late fall. The first substantial rain or snowfall and that person is being woken up by the water flowing into their shelter and their stuff being under water. Terrible way to wake up in the middle of the night and some of your stuff is lost or unsalvageable. I hate to be that guy but if anyone is lost choosing a better location can very much save their life.
there are so many fake channels and so few real channels with building, but using tools, being clothed, not being over-the-top and staying humble proves the authenticity of the video amazing how he's living a lot of people's childhoods, my own included

I would suggest that he make the chimney another two feet higher to ensure a proper draft. Otherwise there is a possible problem. This why all houss chimneys are well above the fireplace.

Is frostbite an issue yet because at night in pa minus the water on hands or Mudd dirt on your hands it freezes them briskly inside pockets under a ski jacket even tucked in a Steelers hoodie pockets I ramble on
One minor critique: I would not recommend using rocks and stones found in water to use in or around a fire. These rocks and stones in water often times have water inside them and when exposed to the heat of the fire can explode due to the water in the rocks and stones turning into steam. Nonetheless, awesome build!
Limestone, as well. And shale. I've seen rocks around firepits blow up, throwing hot shards for several feet. (Just cautionary... I was studying the chimney build here.) I totally admire this underground shelter! I want one, lol!
@Janet Lynne most of the fire pits I have used have been made with granite boulders that are common in the areas I tend to camp, they might occasionally have one or two that have split down the middle, but most of them are in one piece even if they are red from very hot fires, be careful the first few times you use a hot rock no matter what sort of rock it is but I think igneous rocks are better suited to use around fires than other types of rocks.
I’ve always been obsessed with wanting to make shelters outside so chefs kiss to this. My brother and I made a pretty big one once right beside our creek and our dad turned it into a fire pit area and put outdoor furniture in there for us and everyone enjoyed it 😊
I watch these videos when I get a bit stressed and they never cease to have a calming effect. This guy is impressive though. I am a phenomenal gatherer/forager.. if I ever get stranded I know I at least won't starve or hurt for medicine...... but the building this guy does with simple tools is INSANE. I love it.

I love watching your videos! We used to always play around in the woods when I was a kid and do things like this, but we had no kind of skills like you show. Been working in software behind the keyboard for 34 years and I’m ready to get off the grid now.! From start to finish how long did it take you to do this? Do you build these shelters homes on your own land or property? I love some of the videos you have you build them. It’s like they’re totally camouflaged and nobody could see them even if they came across them! Awesome job.
I mean sure, he's not hardcore surviving in the wild, but this guy is in the outdoors getting his hands dirty, problem solving and living a good life from what I can see. More power to him.
Dude, you're amazing. That you have all those survival skills is one thing. That you are so deft at executing them AND at filming, editing and creating a comprehensive teaching video is a whole other thing entirely. Sitting here, watching this on my phone in my own little shelter, soup fresh off the fire, thinking "heyyy, I built one of these" is honestly a next level feeling of comfort.

If you have the shelter close to your home, you can go there to just chill out and make a fire and enjoy the peace and quiet 😃

So we roamed around the bush having wild adventures, some real (and dangerous eg with poisonous snakes, dingos etc), other imaginary eg looking for dinosaur eggs, footprints etc. And we challenged ourselves to survive any such encounter with such monsters. By build g these dug out shelters in the bush. Good fun. Until fathers found us and laughed at our pathetic efforts at "survivalism" and explained why our shelters were useless and how to build better ones. We learned many useful skills this way. It develops a child's ingenuity and, of course, toughens them up mentally, too. Because parents can't be around forever to protect you as their child.

Little tip, use a shovel when mining dirt, it's much faster than the pickaxe. Also if you have an iron pick you probably don't need to make your house out of dirt but that's just an aesthetic choice.

There are several people putting videos out without words. Most are digging holes in the dirt. Some build in rock crevasses. All use wood they cut to fit.
I like how you show how you make the clay instead of those fake ones that literally just get “clay” from a swamp.

That little river. It looks like the river bed he's building in will get a lot more water later in year or perhaps with bad weather. Be carefull not all of it gets floodef or ripped away/dissolved
Way to low on the comments. That is not a long term shelter and choosing that location could be dangerous for anyone planning on staying in it. From the leaves that were put on there it looks like mid to late fall. The first substantial rain or snowfall and that person is being woken up by the water flowing into their shelter and their stuff being under water. Terrible way to wake up in the middle of the night and some of your stuff is lost or unsalvageable. I hate to be that guy but if anyone is lost choosing a better location can very much save their life.

One minor critique: I would not recommend using rocks and stones found in water to use in or around a fire. These rocks and stones in water often times have water inside them and when exposed to the heat of the fire can explode due to the water in the rocks and stones turning into steam. Nonetheless, awesome build!
Limestone, as well. And shale. I've seen rocks around firepits blow up, throwing hot shards for several feet. (Just cautionary... I was studying the chimney build here.)

@Janet Lynne most of the fire pits I have used have been made with granite boulders that are common in the areas I tend to camp, they might occasionally have one or two that have split down the middle, but most of them are in one piece even if they are red from very hot fires, be careful the first few times you use a hot rock no matter what sort of rock it is but I think igneous rocks are better suited to use around fires than other types of rocks.

I’ve always been obsessed with wanting to make shelters outside so chefs kiss to this. My brother and I made a pretty big one once right beside our creek and our dad turned it into a fire pit area and put outdoor furniture in there for us and everyone enjoyed it 😊

I watch these videos when I get a bit stressed and they never cease to have a calming effect. This guy is impressive though. I am a phenomenal gatherer/forager.. if I ever get stranded I know I at least won't starve or hurt for medicine...... but the building this guy does with simple tools is INSANE. I love it.

I love watching your videos! We used to always play around in the woods when I was a kid and do things like this, but we had no kind of skills like you show. Been working in software behind the keyboard for 34 years and I’m ready to get off the grid now.! From start to finish how long did it take you to do this? Do you build these shelters homes on your own land or property? I love some of the videos you have you build them. It’s like they’re totally camouflaged and nobody could see them even if they came across them! Awesome job.

Dude, you're amazing. That you have all those survival skills is one thing. That you are so deft at executing them AND at filming, editing and creating a comprehensive teaching video is a whole other thing entirely.
