  • Near Hindon, on the South Island of New Zealand, there's one of only two remaining one-lane road-rail bridges in the country. No barriers, no lights, no sirens: if you're driving across this, you need to make sure to listen out for the train horn.
Thanks to all the Dunedin Railways team! You can find out more about them here: www.dunedinrailways.co.nz/

I completely forgot to record my "thank you to Dunedin Railways" outro. It is a beautiful rail journey on the South Island: pull down the description for a link to their site!

Why not rerecord the outro (like voice over) and reupload it? Seeing that this is uploaded three week before it was published, you have a plenty damn time to reupload a corrected version.

Well still a good vid cheers!

That kind of bridges also exist in Uruguay, thus, there are almost no trains running nowadays. In addition, priorities are usually shown by signs, but when non are present, that travelling in direction to the capital of the country (in a national road) or in direction of the capital of the department (in a departamental road) has the right of way.

I somehow visualize a car getting part way across the bridge, seeing the train coming the other way, realizes they won't make it to the far end, and has to test how fast their car can go in reverse. Full "I'mma nope right outta here!" mode.

As a Kiwi, we have got use to this type of road/rail crossing. The worst was at Seddon where the train was on deck above the cars. not a nice feeling when you were underneath the train as it went across.

The speed of the train is bit more.. considering it is common bridge the train should be dead slow what is the train and car come opposite to each other on bridge all of a sudden ? Car can apply sudden break but not train

  • Mike and Tricia Johnson

We have been on that train, they stop just after the tunnel to let passengers off to walk across the bridge so that you can take pictures of the train coming at you and then the train stops just around the corner so that the passengers can get back on.
It's a very good trip with some stunning scenery.
Dunedin station is worth a visit even if you're not traveling, the ticket hall is incredible.
